Yesterday I attended a day of guest lectures at Kingston Uni by Luke Parlin and Simon Kobic. They were excellent speakers and delivered engaging and informative talks on a variety of topics, related mostly to service design and monetisation. There was so much great information from the day that it would take me ages to summarise it here and I would probably still do dis-service to the presentations that were delivered. The major takeaways from the day however were the growing importance of mobile games, the "games as a service" business model and diversifying the ways in which one monetises a game. We also went in-depth on the concepts of Octalysis and Bartle types and how these notions can be used to help inform game design decision making.
