After delivering my level blockout to the team and having a meeting with them, they went away and made some changes based on my earlier recommendations and what I had planned for the level design. These changes were largely focused around the character movement and aiming systems. I took the time to test out the latest version on the player character within the blockout level. My testing mainly consisted of my traversing the blockout using the player character to look for any bugs or flaws in the current system which require improvement. I made note of each issue I found and suggested a solution for many of them. Here are the notes I made during my testing session and sent to the team:
This latest version of the game features vastly improved player movement and the changes to the camera will allow for far better aiming once the weapon system is re-enabled. Here is a quick video of the latest gameplay:
Clearly there is still a lot of work to be done before the game is up to the standard we want. But the team are making quick progress and responding well to my testing notes. We should be on track to have something truly playable within the next week and then spend our final week or so polishing it all up.
