Impulse: Initial Character Designs

I have come up with a first draft for my cast of player characters. These are the characters that will make up the party controlled by the player. I have named them, given them a "class", designed an Impulse for them to contend with, given them four abilities each and images to show how I envision them looking.. This is all subject to change of course. The main risk at the moment is that if I cant find appropriate art assets for a character, I might have to re-contextualise them to fit the assets I can find, or maybe even scrap a character if I cant find anything at all resembling what I had in mind for them. I may also add characters along the way if I come up with any more especially cool ideas. Similarly, if while implementing a character, I find that they are fundamentally not engaging in a way that cant be resolved with a rework, I may have to remove them. All of the character info is contained within my design document but I will also post it below:

Name: Lucius

Class: Vampire

Impulse

Bloodthirsty: When a character takes bleed damage near Lucius, he is drawn to drain them of blood. If he fails to resist this, he will use his Drain Blood ability to attack them. If he is out of range, he will run to them first. If they are too far to run, he will use his Shadow Step ability to teleport to them.

Abilities

Bloody Slash: strike a target in melee range with your dagger, dealing moderate physical damage. Has a chance to apply a bleed to the target which does moderate damage to them on your next turn. Low energy cost.

Dancing Dagger: throw a blade at the target enemy, dealing minor physical damage. Has a chance to apply a bleed to the target, dealing minor damage to them on your next turn. Low energy cost.

Shadow Shift: Become invisible and teleport to the target location. While invisible you cannot be seen or targeted. You will remain invisible until your next turn or until you attack or are hit by an ability. High energy cost.

Drain Blood: Bite into the target with your fangs and drink their blood, expending all your remaining energy points, dealing bleed damage for each point spent and healing yourself for an equal amount.

Name: Beatrice

Class: Werewolf

Impulse

Lunar Rage: When touched by moonlight, Beatrice gains lunar rage. She then has a chance, equal to her lunar range %, to take on her bestial form for the turn. While in this form, she has greatly increased speed, power and health but she will spend the turn attacking the nearest creature. While out of moonlight her lunar rage drains gradually.

Abilities

Claw Swipe: strike a target in melee range with your claws, dealing moderate physical damage. Has a chance to apply a bleed which deals bleed damage on the target’s next turn. Low energy cost.

Vicious Bite: tear at the target within melee range with your teeth, dealing major physical damage. High energy cost. Can only be done once per turn.

Pounce: Leap a moderate distance. Landing on an enemy deals moderate physical damage and stuns them, increasing their damage taken and preventing them from acting for 1 round.

Howl: let out a bone-chilling howl. Striking fear into enemies, reducing their power, and inspiring allies, increasing their power.

Name: Robert

Class: Zombie

Impulse

Undying Hunger: Robert craves the taste of flesh. His hunger constantly increases. On his turn he has a chance, scaling with his hunger, to use cannibal consumption on the nearest creature.

Abilities

Reckless Strike: strike the enemy wildly, dealing moderate damage to them. Minor energy and health cost.

Cannibal Consumption: Bite a chunk out of your target, dealing moderate damage, healing yourself and reducing your hunger.

Pestilence: unleash the plague within you, infecting nearby enemies with a disease which deals damage at the end of this turn and your next 2 turns. High energy cost, minor health cost.

Eternal Regeneration: Restore your flesh, healing you. High energy cost increases your hunger. Can be used while dead.

Name: Balthuzar

Class: Warlock

Impulse

Lust for Power: When there is an opportunity to gain power, Balthuzar longs to seize it. If he does not take the opportunity to make himself stronger, his lust for power grows, increasing the chance that he will be forced to act selfishly next time. In combat, every point of energy not spent on summon demon or demonic empowerment each turn increases his lust for power.

Abilities

Fireball: Conjure a ball of flame and launch it at the target, dealing fire damage to them. Moderate energy cost.

Summon Demon: Call forth a creature from another plane to attack your foes. This creature has very low health and low power but high speed. High energy cost.

Curse: Inflict the target with a wicked curse, dealing minor damage to them instantly and on your next two turns. While cursed, the target has reduced power. Moderate energy cost

Demonic Empowerment: Strike a dark bargain to empower yourself for the rest of the battle, granting minor power, speed and toughness. High energy cost

Name: Taleth

Class: Zealot

Impulse

Purge the Wicked: You are compelled by your faith to attack inhuman and heretical beings and aid god-fearing humans. Every time you act against your faith, you gain guilt. Every time you act faithfully, you lose guilt. The more guilt you have, the stronger your impulse to follow your faith. In combat, every time you use a offensive ability on a non-heretical human, your impulse is triggered. If you fail to resist, you will instead cast this ability on the nearest non-human or heretic. This works the other way around for supportive abilities.

Abilities

Smite: Call upon your god to strike down the target, dealing high damage. High energy cost.

Miraculous Healing: Pray for the target’s recovery, healing them by a moderate amount. Moderate energy cost.

Blessing: Grant the target your god’s favour, increasing their power and speed until your next turn. Moderate energy cost.

Compel: Stun the target with divine brilliance, preventing them from acting until your next turn.
